US reverses travel ban – Humanities 360 – 4/02/17

The US authorities have reserves the travel ban. The ban was on people from seven mainly Muslim countries. The state department said it was reversing the cancellation of visas, 60,000 of which were revoked after President Donald Trump’s order. The judge suspended it since Judge James Robert ruled there were legal grounds to challenge the travel ban. It was temporary restraining order on Friday halted the ban.

Donald Trump answered saying ‘ridiculous’ and demanded to restore the ban. Airlines soon allowed the banned 7 countries people’s back on planes. The people affected by the ban were allowed to board flights to America on Saturday.  Customs said they could resume boarding the banned travelers and all the airlines said they would do so.

Trump argues the travel ban is designed to protect the US. Trump took his anger to twitter and raged against Judge Robard on Twitter ‘The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!’ ‘When a country is no longer able to say who can, and who cannot , come in & out, especially for reasons of safety & security – big trouble!’Screen Shot 2017-02-04 at 22.11.33.png

The people which were affected with the ban are very happy that they are now able to board flights again. However, people who were banned are not confident that the ban  will continue being suspended. They are not taking the risk again.

There were huge protests against the ban in the US. Protests took place everywhere in America as well as in airports. They wanted to deliver the message that America still welcomed refugees.

They way the judge held the ban was he found legal challenges launched by two states were likely to succeed (Washington and Minnesota).

The reason why we should care is, because America is one of the biggest countries in the world and this news is in every news articles headline. Trump keeps on making poor choices which will affect the whole world.
